Incomplete amorphous phosphorization results in the formation of crystalline cobalt molybdate nanoparticles surrounded by amorphous cobalt phosphide (CoMoO 4 @a-CoP x ) in the shell, which synergistically enhances the hydrogen-evolution activity in an alkaline solution.
