A T 1 – T 2 switchable MRI contrast agent, hyaluronic acid-modified iron oxide nanoparticle–polyacrylic acid, is used for the identification of vulnerable atherosclerotic plaques by macrophage phagocytosis. It could reveal promising enhancement in MRI.
