quette of ward rounds, ethics, conferences, establishment of reading habits, writing of papers, relationships with nurses, drug information, rational use of laboratory, and confrontation with death. There are also superb discussions of transition from residency training to active practice and of adaptation to military service. A bonus is de¬ lightful chapter by Mrs. Moser which offers a remarkably discerning but loving look at the good doctor. This vaguely discomfiting and deflating contribution is almost worth price of entire book. My only disappointments were omissions of discussions of im¬ portance of a good medical record as an essential part of good medical care, and of relationships between professional and administrative staffs. But these omissions do not detract from essential worth of this monograph. I can heartily recommend this book with complete honesty as vir¬ tually required reading for all house officers, training program directors, and anyone else involved in teaching of House Staff. In fact, most physicians would enjoy this book with perhaps a few small res¬ ervations. Certainly, wives of physi¬ cians would appreciate and endorse sentiments expressed by en¬ thusiastic acolyte, Stella N. Moser. David J. Crosby, MD Tucson, Ariz
