High temperature superconducting (HTS) bulks stacked by the RE (RE = rare earth) Ba-Cu-O tape have been demonstrated to trap field as permanent magnets. A Bitter-like HTS magnet stacked by the REBCO annuli was investigated to realize its ability to operate with the persistent current mode without joint resistance and current lead. However, the magnetic field generated by the Bitter-like HTS magnet was relatively small and increased rapidly to the saturation value during the short period. To further analyze the characterization of the magnetic field in the Bitter-like HTS magnet under various excitation methods, the inner multiple pulsed fields and field cooling methods, as well as the zero-field cooling method, were performed by experiments in the LN2bath (77 K). It can be observed that the magnetic field of the HTS magnet passed through a low induction zone and linearly increased to a saturated value magnetized by the inner multiple pulsed fields. Moreover, a finite element method was also developed for the HTS magnet to pursue the distributions of the magnetic field and current density during the excitation process.
