An Effective Way of Improving the Performance of Ni‐Rich LiNi0.82Co0.12Mn0.06O2 Cathode in Lithium‐Ion Battery via Borate Coating

Nickel‐rich cathode materials are competitive materials for their low cost and high specific capacity without charging at high potentials. However, structure instability, especially the side reaction, still needs to be further solved. Herein, an effective way of improving the performance of nickel‐rich cathode materials via borate coated on the water‐washed sample is introduced. The boron elements can both easily form a membrane and diffuse into the whole particle to form lithium boron oxides. This Li + conductor network makes the lithium transfer more efficiently and acts as an artificial solid‐state electrolyte interface (SEI), which increases the discharge capacity. A lithium boron oxides barrier film is formed between electrode and electrolyte, which effectively suppresses the side reaction and improves the capacity retention. Moreover, the reduction of residual lithium compound and pH value, which leads to more stable electrode slurry, making it more attractive for practical applications.
