Polymer lubricants (PLs) are highly attractive lubricating materials for their excellent tribological properties. In this work, a novel ring-bridged polymer lubricant (PIBOA) was prepared from monomers of isobornyl acrylate (IBOA) and its tribological performance was evaluated, which indicates that the functional group of bridged cycloalkanes can control the coefficient of friction compared with the polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) lacking the “hook” group. Moreover, the antiwear performance of PIBOA is similar to that of PMMA. The X-ray absorption near edge structure (XANES) analysis and rheological results reveal that the generation of a layer by layer sulfur-based tribofilm with different chemical compositions and the increase of shear viscosity result in excellent antiwear performance and the control of the coefficient of friction. The understanding of the tribology of bridged bicyclic polymers might shed light on the design and application of precision machinery.
