Study of treatment effect of transcatheter intraplrural therapy and pleural puncture on tuberculosis pleural effusion

Objective To investgate the difference between transcatheter intraplrural therapy and pleural puncture in the treatment of tuberculosis pleural effusion.Methods 127 cases were chosen from patients who hospitalized in Hebei Chest Hospital from January 2010to October 2011.Patients were divided into transcatheter intraplrural therapy group and pleural puncture group.The number of days when pleural volume of patients was below 15 mm (for more than two weeks) in the two groups and the number of days when fever disappeared,and the complications related to operation were observed.Results There was statistical difference in time when pleural volume was below 15 mm between transcatheter intraplrural therapy group and pleural puncture group [(6± 2.52) d vs (9± 1.37) d,P ＜0.05].There was statistical difference in time when fever disappeared between transcatheter intraplrural therapy group and pleural puncture group [(5±1.23) d vs (7± 1.07) d,P ＜0.05].The two groups had no serious complications related to the operation.Conclusions Transcatheter intraplrural therapy and pleural puncture are both safe and effective.The efficacy of transcatheter intraplrural therapy is better than that of pleural puncture.
