A focal point of tourism research has developed at the junction between tourism and experience. Interactive involvement of visitors is gaining new importance within destination strategies since it can substantially contribute to enhancing products and offers. Furthermore, creating experiences at the convergence of tourism production and tourism consumption is a topic that has found its way into literature under the concept of experiencescapes. In the context of an increased transition towards a green economy within Europe renewable energy-based attractions may contribute to a green orientation also within the tourism system. Additionally, renewable energy-based tourist attractions can also act as a centre of education for sustainable development. They are considered to be adequate, informal, and innovative learning environments and offer opportunities to raise awareness among young people about technical professions. However, overall, the results of our multiple case study suggest that renewable energy-based tourist attractions seem to be an instrument to realize the potentials of energy tourism.
