In order to improve the efficiency of CO2 hydrate-based desalination, cyclopentane (CP) was used as secondary hydrate guest to alleviated temperature requirements for hydrate formation. The cations (Na+, K+, Mg2+, Ca2+) and the anions (Cl− and SO42−) were analyzed by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrograph (ICP-OES) and ion chromatography (IC), respectively. Dissociated water from the extracted hydrate pellets showed that the removal efficiency of each ion was 55.72-85.52%.This study illustrated that the apparatus may solve the separation difficulty between hydrate slurry and concentrated seawater, and improve ion removal efficiency, thus it can be applied for more effective desalination and solution concentration.
