Abstract Today’s BSCE: A Survey of Credit Hour RequirementsAbstractThe purpose of this paper is to present the results of a survey and analysis of today’s civilcurricula in terms of credit hours required for degree. There has been considerable discussionnationally about a trend to reduce credit hour requirements. While this paper will not addressany historical trends, it will provide a comprehensive description of today’s degree requirements.This will include both total credit hour requirement for degree as well as a breakdown of thecredit hours required in various major topic areas/categories, such as mathematics and basicsciences, general engineering topics, engineering design, and general education. This will alsoprovide individual programs a sound base to which comparisons may be made.Coordination: This abstract is submitted at the specific invitation and request of Tom Lenox, thecoordinator of the ASCE Liaison Committee’s program for the CE Division of ASEE in 2011. Itshould be considered for inclusion in the session(s) that Tom Lenox is organizing andmoderating.
