The objectives of these studies are : 1. To determine the extent to which sewage treatment processes can tolerate metallic wastes without losing efficiency in their treatment of the organic pol lutants in sewage. 2. To determine the extent of re moval of metallic wastes in sewage treatment plants and to follow their travel and concentration in various units of conventional sewage disposal processes. 3. Where a need exists and where practical, to develop modifications of sewage treatment procedures which will make them more tolerant of metal lic wastes, or to make them more ef ficient in the removal of metals from sewage. It is believed that the objectives will serve a number of purposes. It is ex pected that the data gathered will assist sewage disposal authorities in deter mining the quantity and character istics of metallic wastes which may be accepted without fear of damaging op eration. Further, it is frequently ef ficient and desirable for industry to be
