The Analysis of Equivalent Circuits of Metal Oxide Surge Varistor Under Different Surge Currents

In order to make a study of the damage to Metal Oxide Surge Arrester which is arised from very fast transient overvoltages,this paper presents the equivalent circuits of metal oxide varistor(MOV) under different surge current waves,such as 8/20?4/10?2/5 and 0.7/1.5,and anlyses the electrical models under steep front waves,then the residual voltage waveforms and voltage overshoot of MOV subjected to steep front waves have been compared.The authors suggest that the dynamic characteristics of MOV and the influence of the front steepness of the currents with different front time should be considered when investigating the equivalent circuits of MOV under steep front currents.After that,some research works in the future have been proposed.
