Influence of pre-extrusion on microstructure and mechanical properties of die forged AZ80 magnesium alloy

The influence of pre-extrusion(extrusion ratio is 4) on microstructure and mechanical properties of die forged AZ80 was studied.The results show that granular sequence β-phase of pre-extruded and die forged AZ80 after T5 separates out at grain boundary,the layered non-sequence β-phase of die forged cast AZ80 after T5 separates out in crystalline.Compared with that of die forged cast AZ80,the tensile strength and elongation of die forged and T5 specimen after pre-extrusion are obviously increased,the yield strength has little changes,brittle fracture decreases obviously,and lots of dimples appear.
