PELAGIC POLYCHAETES FROM THE TAIWAN BANK

The present report is based upon collections of plankton made by the members of the Fujian Institute of Fishery Science in 1975-1978 from theTaiwan Strait*************----Taiwan Bank and adjacent waters,between longitudes 116**********o00'-118********o30'E.,depth to 200m.The pelagic polychaetes of the Taiwan Bank and adjacent waters are very imperfectly known.Seventeen species belonging to 10 genera in 4 families have been identified,of which 4 species,namely,Lopadorhynchus nationalis Reibisch,Plotohelmis alata Chamberlin,Tomopteris nationalis Apstein and To-mopteris pacifica Izuka are recorded for the first time from the sea area off china.With the exception of 7 cosmopolitan species,all are characteristic of warm water.An analysis of the species composition of this pelagic polych-aete fauna indicates that it is similar to that of its neighbouring regions,such as southern Japan,Malaysia,Indonesia,Philippines and India.
