The epidemiological survey of depression disorder and cognitive disorder of the elderly in Shanghai Pudong community

Objective: To explore the relationship between the prevalence of depressive disorder and the prevalence of cognitive disorder of the elderly in the Pudong area of Shanghai,and set up basic data so as to provide scientific rationale for the community elderly mental health. Method:3 311 residents aged 60 years or above were selected by random sampling.And then all patients with depressive disorder were diagnosed using the structured clinical interview for DSM-Ⅳ-TR axis I disorders-patient Edition(SCID-I/P).All patients with mild cognitive disorder were screned and accordanced with the diagnosis criteria of Petersen MCI,while patients with Alzheimer were diagnosed using the diagnosis criteria of DSM-Ⅳ. Results:The time point prevalence of depressive disorder and the time point prevalence of cognitive disorder in the elderly was 19.09%(632 cases) and 25.28%(837 cases) respectively.Such factors as cognitive disorder,age,literacy,living alone and with or without somatic diseases were significantly associated with the prevalence of depressive disorder patients(P0.05). Conclusion:The prevalence of depressive disorder and the prevalence of cognitive disorder in the elderly in Shanghai Pudong community are high,and both is associated with each other.
