Study on the Behavior of Hydrogen Evolution and its Inhibitors for Zn/Al Flakes Mixture

In this paper,the behavior of hydrogen evolution of Zn/Al flakes mixed in different proportion was studied in a solution of water with 10 mass% 2-butoxyothanol.Then the influence of two inhibitors of boric acid and phytic acid on the hydrogen evolution was evaluated.The results showed that:1)The amount of hydrogen evolution for single Zn flake and Al flake were relatively small,but much more for the mixtures of the two.It was Al in the mixture played an important role in the hydrogen evolution.The amount of hydrogen evolution,rate of hydrogen evolution and ratio of hydrogen evolution(the amount of H2 evolution to the theoretically expected one)for Zn/Al flakes mixture were increased with the increased Al proportion.2)Both boric acid and phytic acid could reduce hydrogen evolution for the mixtures of the proportions of 8∶2 and 2∶8 with a optimal concentration of 20 g/L and 1g/L respectively.
