Survey of intestinal parasitic infections in hospitalized patients

Objective To investigate the prevalence and clinical characteristics of intestinal parasite infection in the patients admitted in this hospital.Methods Parasites in 39 671 hospitalized patients in the outpatients of Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi Medical University from Jan.2010 to Dec.2011 were detected.The positive results was analyzed.Results Infection was detected in 5 751 patients,the overall infection rate was 14.50%.8 parasite species were found,the infection rate was 5.96% in Clonorchis sinensis,0.45% in Round worm,0.24% in Whip worm,2.46% in Hook worm,0.82% in Entamoeba histolytica,3.91% in Blastocystis hominis,0.65% in Giardia lamblia,0.09% in Trichomonas hominis.The infection rates were 16.78% and 10.77% in males and females respectively,the former was much higher than the later(P0.001).The infection rates were the highest in 30～40 age group which were 24.19%.Most of the infected patients had harmful dietary or hygiene habbits.Clinical manifestation was complicated and not special.Conlusion The infection rate of soil nematode sex is low,but high in Clonorchis sinensis and Blastocystis hominis.We should advocate the education to promote disease prevention except early diagnosis and medicine control.
