The Aeolian sand in Guerbantonggute desert is mainly composed of quartz. The sand grains are well-sorted and of high psephicity. The engineering geological properties can be characterized by high porosity, low friction angle and low bearing capacity. Some thematic engineering geological researches have been conducted in the north, middle and south section of the desert, through which the basic physical mechanics properties of the sand, such as compactibility, compressibility, permeability, frost and heave, have been generalized in this paper.
