Some Comments on Devonian in South China

Based on a brief review of the Devonian data of China from the last 20 years,some comments are given to the classification and division of Devonian in South China.It can be classified into 4 basic facies types for the marine shallow water Devonian in South China,they are:the Xiangzhou type,the Beiliu type,the Nandan type and the Chongzuo type.Each of them has their own rock associations,characteristic fossil groups under special depositional environment and facies controlling,and the stratigraphic columns should be established for them respectively.If it would be necessary to keep the regional stages for the Devonian in South China,a new stage is need to be established for the base of Devonian,the old stage,Lianhuashan Stage was based on the littoral facies deposits lack of index fossil data for the continental correlation.It is appropriate to subdivide the Emsian correlative deposits in South China into three stages,in ascending order, they are the Yukiang Stage,the Ertang Stage and the Sipai Stage.
