The anti-inflammatory activity of the ethanol extract from Cinnamomum longepaniculatum leaves was investigated with three experimental models including the dimethyl benzene-induced ear edema in mice, the acetic acid-induced vascular permeability in mice and the carrageenan-induced paw edema in rats. The prostaglandin E2(PGE2),histamine and 5-hydroxytryptamine(5-HT) in exudates of paw edema induced by carrageenan in rats were also detected for the evaluation of anti-inflammatory activity of the ethanol extract. In result, the ethanol extract significantly inhibited the ear edema, and the capillary permeability and the paw edema with a dose-dependent relationship. The ethanol extract resulted in a dosedependent reduction of the levels of PGE2,histamine and 5-HT in the exudates of edema paw induced by carrageenin. These results demonstrated that the ethanol extract from C.longepaniculatum leaves has potential anti-inflammatory activity.
