Study on the correlation between Smad ubiquitination regulatory factor 1 and gastric adenocarcinoma

【Objective】To assess the expression level of Smad ubiquitination regulatory factor 1(SMURF1) in gastric adenocarcinoma,so as to probe its possible role in the development of gastric adenocarcinoma.【Methods】With the paired normal tissues as control, the expression of SMURF1 mRNA and protein was detected in 101 cases of gastric adenocarcinoma with real-time polymerase chain reaction(real-time PCR) and Western blotting assays. Statistic analysis was carried out to compare the differences between groups.【Results】The average relative expression level of SMURF1 mRNA in tumor group was 0.921 ± 0.293, and that in paired normal tissues was 0.611 ± 0.251. In 71 cases, the expression of SMURF1 mRNA was higher in tumor tissues than in paired normal tissues,accounting for 70%. The average SMURF1 protein expression level was 0.665± 0.223 in tumor group, and that in control group was0.416 ± 0.203. In 78 cases, the expression of SMURF1 protein was higher in tumor tissues, accounting for 77%. The differences of both SMURF1 mRNA and protein levels between tumor group and control group were statistically significant(P 0.05). 【Conclusion】The expression of SMURF1 was up-regulated in gastric adenocarcinoma, which may play a role in the development of gastric carcinoma.
