Effective Use of Water Resources and Salinity and Waterlogging Control in the Hetao Irrigation Area of Inner Mongolia

Hetao irrigation area of Inner Mongolia is one of the biggest irrigation area in China with long history.In order to increase the output of agriculture and saving the water resources,the first problem is to control the saline and waterlogging.Effective use of water resources in irrigation,application of water saving irrigation and drainage technology and system to adjust soil-water dynamic state are in urgent need to develop irrigation soil from saline accumulation to desalting.The present amount of water drawing from Yellow River is 5 billion m~(3),accounting 90% of the total the river drawing of Inner Mongolia,exceeding about 1 billion m~(3)of the distributed index of the government.Effective use of irrigation wateris a key point to reachthe reasonable leaching criterion,index and time.The practical methods are the combination of irrigation and drainage as using channels and ditch,tube wells for irrigation and drainage,drainage to the desert area,biological drainage,reasonable water distribution network and irrigation program,water saving irrigation methods and saline water irrigation.
