Power and Solidarity in Apology: A Critical Discourse Analysis of an Apologetic Announcement

This research is to explore,from the pe rspective of critical discourse analysis,how people choose different kinds of apologetic language to adjust their relationship with power and solidarity in order to achieve their communicative purposes. The paper mainly concerns with the analysis of passive voice,personal pronouns,overwording,nominalization and modality so as to expose the hidden power relation and the construct of solidarity. A critical discourse analysis of a public discourse can improve our sensitivity to language and awareness of critical language.
