High Performance, Low Sensitivity: Conflicting or Compatible?

Abstract Some general guidelines and specific molecular/crystalline features for promoting a high level of detonation performance in conjunction with low sensitivity are proposed. A key point is that a large detonation heat release should be avoided; it is undesirable with respect to sensitivity and it is not required in terms of performance.
