Simulation of Snow Ablation Processes in the Upstream of Kunes River, Yili Valley, Xinjiang

Water resources predominantly rely on stream flow fed by the water released from snowpack in the mountain areas in the Yili valley. Climate warming is evident with both the temperature and precipitation increase in the area. Temperature increase is able to accelerate the snowpack ablation processes. So, two temperature enhancement testes in the field were designed for exploring the snowpack ablation processes. Then, the snowpack ablation processes was simulated under different temperature scenarios using the degree day model due to the credibility of temperature prediction in the future. The field tests and simulation results showed that temperature increase accelerated the snowpack ablation processes significantly, and the processes ablated sharply in higher temperature scenarios. Snowpack ablation processes shortened under temperature increase.
