A Theoretical Framework for Geographical Studies of Industrial Location

Oce NNE of the most important requiremients in geographical research today is a sound theoretical basis for studies in economic geography. The belief that economic activity can be explained as a response to the physical environment is no longer regarded as an adequate interpretation of the spatial arrangement of economic phenomena. but an alternative set of principles with a firm foundation of economics has not yet gained general acceptance. The basis which is needed is what William Warntz has described as mnacro analysis, the aim of which is to develop concepts at a more meaningful level of abstraction so as to make possible the understanding of the whole economic system and to provide a conceptual framework into which to put the micro-descriptions.
