. Temperature, water, and sunshine conditions affect vegetation efficiency in terms of carbon gain. Responses of annual carbon use efficiency (CUE; i.e., the ratio of net primary production to gross primary production) to annual temperature, precipitation, vapor pressure, relative humidity, and sunshine were examined from 2000 to 2012 on the Tibetan Plateau. The response magnitudes of CUE to climatic factors varied with vegetation types, and might be related to changed climates with vegetation types. Spatially averaged CUE increased with increasing temperature and vapor pressure deficit, but decreased with actual vapor pressure and relative humidity. The vapor pressure deficit had the strongest effect on spatially averaged CUE. Specifically, air humidity conditions dominated the interannual variation of spatially averaged CUE. Warming and drying climatic changes will likely be conductive to an increased vegetation carbon storage efficiency of the Tibetan Plateau.Résumé.
