African green and rhesus monkeys treated with antithymocyte globulin were used to test for the tumorigenic potential of 4 cell lines derived from human neoplasms and from a variety of other sources with differing characteristics. Cells of neoplastic origin and those transformed with virus were tumorigenic in this test system, whereas the other cell types evidenced no tumor formation. The results suggest that the nonhuman primate conditioned with antithymocyte globulin can be a useful system to assess the tumorigenic potential of cells for man.
