Screen for specific proteins in the serum of patients with breast cancer using the technique of SELDI-TOF-MS.

[Abstract] Objective Proteomic approach offered us a more direct way to know the molecular complexity of malignant tumors including breast cancer.We use surface enhanced laser desorption/ionization time of flight mass spectrometry( SELDI唱TOF唱MS) to investigate the protein patterns in the serum of patients with breast cancer.Methods SELDI唱TOF唱MS and weak cation exchanger protein chip (WCX2)were used to detect the relative protein content in serum of 12 healthy people,10 patients with benign breast diseases and 22 patients with breast cancer and the data was analyzed by Biomarker Wizard software .Results At the M/Z values range from 2,000 Da to 30,000 Da,the contents of two proteins (3,939畅314 Da and 3,960畅478 Da)had significant difference in the three groups.Conclusions SELDI唱TOF唱MS shows great potentiality for breast cancer in early diagnosis and screening of tumor biomarkers,and we consider it a valuable approach in clinical applications.
