This book contains 16 chapters organised into four blocks. The blocks address issues related to the principles of price determination, variation of prices over time, space and quality, alternative pricing arrangements and empirical analysis of price behaviour. Targeted readers of the book are undergraduate and graduate students in agricultural markets and prices. Readers from other disciplines could also use the book to familiarise themselves with concepts and issues in agricultural markets and prices. The title of the book accommodates well the broad range of issues covered under the four blocks listed above. Chapters both within and across blocks can be read separately depending on one's area of interest. Below, chapters within each block are discussed in more detail. As in any standard micro economics textbook, the first three chapters describe the derivation of demand and supply curves, their elasticities and the relationships among elasticities. In addition to theory, these chapters discuss relevant empirical issues that one should note when modelling demand and supply in agricultural markets. Examples of issues raised are the distinction between consumer demand and farm-level-derived demand, the interpretation of estimated elasticities and their comparison across time, and mea...
