I appreciate receiving the comments by Dr. Snyder, and I agree that his method does allow separation of flow components on a time basis without any inference as to source. I do see a possible problem, however, in that the method requires the availability of considerable data as well as a fairly complex analysis. Therefore it is probably more suitable for well‐instrumented experimental watersheds than for ordinary gaged basins. Nevertheless this type of approach offers great potential, and I look forward to seeing the results of its application, particularly in conjunction with hydrogeologic studies.
