Psychiatric Disorders of Children With Congenital Rubella

The ability to define a psychiatric disorder separate and distinct from physical abnormalities, or to define such a disorder in its relationship to definite or possible central nervous system abnormality is a monumental task. This study of 243 youngsters, ages 2 1/2 to 4 years, presents the first detailed study of the behavioral consequences of congenital rubella in such a large group of children. Despite efforts to produce and present a detailed study, in many areas the report is incomplete. For example, information on the intactness of families, details of the examination, individual and family responses to rubella in pregnancy and its sequelae, the characteristics of the mothering available to each child, and data on inter-interviewer reliability are, if considered at all, presented in a minimal fashion.
