Patch Test Reactions to Hexavalent and Trivalent Chromium Compounds

Patch test to trivalent chromium compounds, in molar concentrations equal to dichromate (0.009 M), caused no reactions in five chromatesensitive subjects. One patient showed a mild reaction with a relatively high concentration of chromium chloride (0.187 M). Positive reactions to trivalent chromium compounds applied after cellophane tape stripping of the skin were observed on three chromate-sensitive subjects tested. Factors relating to diffusion of chromium ions through skin and the concentrations of test solutions used in testing are discussed.
