Guinea Pig Leukemia L2C: Characterization of Chromosomes and Attempts to Demonstrate Antigenicity

The antigenicity of a transplantable strain-2 guinea pig leukemia was evaluated by transplantation protection tests. Pretreatment of animals with intradermal injections of sublethal doses of living leukemic cells did not consistently provide immunity to a subsequent challenge with living leukemic cells. The chromosomal constitution of the leukemia was studied in strain-2 and Hartley male and female guinea pigs. The chromosomal constitution of the leukemic cells was the same in animals of both sexes and strains. These biologic characteristics of guinea pig leukemia L2C are consistent with those of a long-transplanted, nonviral tumor.
