Chemical modification of enzyme proteins is a useful procedure in studies on the relationship between the structure and function of enzymes and has been used in many cases.Several interesting experiments have appeared on acylated, guanidinated and trinitrophenylated cytochrome c's (Cyt.c).1' Carboxymethylation of pancreatic ribonuclease A,2' a-chymotrypsin,3' and myoglobin4' were extensively studied and several interesting hypotheses were proposed on the mechanisms of these enzyme functions.
