Functional gastrointestinal disorders comprise many unexplained afflictions for which no organic cause can be identified. These disturbances occur worldwide and make up half the gastroenterology cases in the Western world. Diagnosis and management is complicated by the fact that no-one can decide whether the disorders have an emotional or a psychological basis. This book presents a single source of standardized definitions, diagnostic criteria and treatment recommendations for these common conditions. Physicians should no longer need to make a diagnosis of exclusion; this book should provide a consensus document of management and treatment.
