The amino acid composition of subtilisin Carlsberg has been determined and is in good agreement with the 274 residues found by sequence studies in the protein.From a tryptic hydrolysate, it was possible to resolve the peptides into a series of fractions by gradient elution from Dowex 50.After further purification, there were obtained the 14 tryptic peptides, accounting for the complete composition of the protein.In addition, some peptides resulting from secondary cleavage were isolated.A peptide containing a bond susceptible to trypsin was obtained in pure form.The compositions and properties of these peptides are reported.
